Thermography was utilized in all three cases above, clearly demonstrating Equi-Tape®’s ability to increase circulation in the taped areas. Today, thermography is widely recognized as a valuable tool in both clinical and field research for objectively measuring these effects.
Case Study
Assessment: 17-year-old mare presented with swelling in her right eyelid and surrounding soft tissue.
Goal: Reduce swelling and inflammation; alleviate discomfort and pain.
Objective: Therapeutic
Technique: Applied a single fan-cut application, extending from the nearest lymph node well past the area of inflammation, using a mild 10% stretch (no stretch on the ends). The tape was lightly but thoroughly rubbed to activate the adhesive.
Considerations: Aggressive surface preparation was performed due to increased sebaceous gland activity on the equine face and the likelihood of the horse rubbing the area from discomfort. Given the horse’s full turnout, application was monitored more frequently. As Equi-Tape® is highly effective, reapplication was necessary within 24 hours due to the tape loosening.
Outcome: At the 24-hour mark, swelling and inflammation in the eyelid and surrounding tissue had significantly decreased. The horse showed no signs of irritation or discomfort, so the tape was removed. 100% success.
